While studying abroad in Florence, Italy, I designed a cover for the book La Disparition written by George Perec. Perec wrote all of his novels with constraints, and La Disparition was written without the letter ‘e’. I used contradiction to emphasize this particular constraint. When the transparent red bookmark is laid over the front cover, all of the type disappears, except for an ‘e’ in Perec.
